Life is change. That said, it is a lot more effective and enjoyable overall to learn how to surf the waves of life, rather than try to stop them from happening.
My goal is with these tips below to get to the core of how to navigate change with grace- even with all of the fear and anxieties that naturally stir up in our body and mind during times of uncertainty.
1. Awareness
The top tip- remembering to bring in the observer that is always watching over you, your thoughts, your actions, etc. from a higher awareness, rather then identifying with it completely. Simply watching; simply SEEING. Being present. Very simple, yet the most powerful thing I believe we can do: allow the light of God IN through our witnessing of what is arising.
I find as I bring in my full presence in any case- especially in times that feel uncomfortable- and just observe them as presently as possible, I am a witness to unexpected miracles in my life unfolding.
2. Focus on God- The Living God Within
This is about keeping God- the living God within you- the Divine- at the forefront of your life. Allowing yourself to be led by God as much as possible- even through tumultuous times- will always take you to the best place for you to be.
3. Softening/flowing/allowing
Flowing WITH life, not against it. Making SPACE for God to come in.
Many times when change or fear arises, our knee jerk reaction is fight or flight. This is great, if we are truly facing a life or death situation. But if its not a survival situation, this usually turns into an unrecognizable internal affliction.
I find in this case, it is best to ALLOW “it” (the contrast you’re experiencing) to be okay. The fear, the uncertainty, the anger, the suffering- simply ALLOW it to be okay, allow it to be seen and felt. I call this softening into what is.
As we practice this, many times the insurmountable recurring drama episodes within us that is really causing us to suffer, is soon dissolved. Then we are left with a newfound clarity and openness, in which we can then navigate the change with grace.
4. Compassion with self and others
Learning to have unconditional compassion with myself and what I am going through has been one of the greatest practices I know, and it is essential for surviving and thriving in these times.
Most, if not all, humans are naturally wired to want to beat themselves up and torture themselves over mistakes or even things that are out of their control entirely. Again, another inner dramatic affliction that we can guide ourselves out of as we PRACTICE awareness and compassion. Allowing ourselves to be the supportive parent of our inner child that maybe we never had- learning from our experiences and having grace with ourselves.
As we have more grace for ourselves, naturally a grace for other beings arises out of that as we can understand more viscerally what they are going through.
5. Trusting – things Are happening FOR you (Not To You)
Remember to trust yourself, God, the universe- often easier said than done. Yet, when you look back at your life you will surely find the divine providence in all of your experiences- even the dark ones- and how they taught and led you to where you are now. I have learned time and time again, there is a divine order and a divine timing to things and while it isn’t easy for the ego to accept this, life is much more enjoyable when you can remember this truth, and relax and surrender into the co-creation between you and a higher dimensional awareness of you.
6. Having fun
Maybe the most important tip?! Finding the fun, the joy, the humor in life is essential. Otherwise- what is the point? Seeing your work as play not only makes it much more enjoyable, but usually much more effective as well.
When we are too deep in seriousness or self-importance we are often missing the point. In many ways, life is about having fun and enjoying the mystery of it. Enjoying surfing the waves and the thrilling dramas we are surfing in and out of. Having humor about the many absurdities in life- is also softening the ego!
7. Being creative, expressive – art, music, dance, reality
Hand in hand with having fun- getting to express yourself as the unique human being you are – in your art, your sound, your lifestyle. As a multidimensional artist of life, you get a canvas in which you get to express and create your experience- such a gift!
This is also so helpful for those uncomfortable times in life, getting to express, move, work, groove with, dance with these energies can definitely help you navigate change with more power and grace.. and fun!
8. service to Others
Giving back to our fellow humanity is so important- for them and for you. I think in our hearts we all desire to share our gifts with the world as it helps us feel more connected with ourselves and each other.
This is simple- it need not be some grand gesture. Just small acts of kindness, sharing your talents or wisdom, helping a friend or famiyl member or stranger with something.. there are always opportunities for us to give back. And when we give more from a place of love and genuine heart, we will always recieve that love back somehow.
Conclusion
There are so many ways to learn to navigate change and intensity with grace. Sometimes life gets messy- and that is okay too, it is all part of the dance, the mystery. Ultimately, it isn’t about trying to control it from the outside in, but to experience it from the inside out and flow with this expansive artistry and mastery that is the gift.
These are, at this time, my top 8 tips but I can think of so many more. I encourage you to have your own “toolkit” if you will, that you can remember in times of change or fear as you continue to bravely grow through it all.
